Welcome to the Bald Creek Elementary School 4-H After School Academy!

“Parent Orientation” is set for Monday, August 24, 5:15 – 6:00 pm. We will have some snacks for you.  We are excited that you have enrolled your student(s) in the 4-H After School Academy, and we want to make sure that we all get off to a good start as we work together to help your child have a wonderful school year. This is a very important meeting and if your work schedule prevents you from attending, please call me at 682-6186 and we can schedule a different time to meet.

Program Overview

The Bald Creek 4-H After School Academy will begin on August 25 (Parent Orientation August 24th) and will run Monday through Thursday from 2:35 pm till 5:30 pm.

Program Objectives

1.  Reduce the number of students who are unsupervised after school, otherwise known as latch-key children;

2. Improve the academic performance of students participating in the program;

3. Help meet the physical intellectual, emotional, and social needs of students participating in the program and improve their attitudes and behavior;

4. Recruit community volunteers to provide positive adult role models for school-aged children and to help supervise after-school activities.

Cost & Application

No charge.  Applications for the Bald Creek 4-H After School Academy will be accepted at Bald Creek Elementary School office or the Yancey Center of the N.C. Cooperative Extension at 10 Orchard Drive in Burnsville.

Program Highlights

The Yancey Extension Center of the N.C. Cooperative Extension is proud to partner with Bald Creek Elementary School to offer the Bald Creek 4-H After School Academy under the capable leadership of experienced and dedicated 4-H Program Assistants:

Susie Hedrick, Coordinator for Kindergarten through 2nd Grade

Glenna Taylor, Coordinator for 3rd through 5th Grade. 

2009-10 program activities will include snacks, homework time, enrichment activities in various life skills areas with community volunteers and agency professionals, and physical activity time.
