Past participant said…”I benefited from encouragements to do better for my health.”
Would you like to make 2014 the year you make the changes necessary to reach your healthy-weight goal? If your answer is yes, join us for the weight-management program on Thursdays starting on January 23th at the Yancey Extension Center Conference Room at 10 Orchard Drive! You’ll learn about positive behaviors that help you achieve and maintain a healthy weight while enjoying a weekly exercise program at the Blue Ridge Fitness Center. You’ll have fun learning about strategies and tools to help you eat smart and move more. You’ll enjoy the group support to keep you motivated. You may be able to improve your overall health through the development of a healthier lifestyle. There will be opportunities throughout the program to win door prizes.
The Eat Smart, Move More, Weigh Less (ESMMWL) 15-week program from N.C. Cooperative Extension and the NC Division of Public Health is being offered by the Yancey Cooperative Extension starting on Thursday, January 23th and running through May 15th from 12:00 – 1:00 pm or 5:30-6:30pm. Weekly weigh-ins start at noon and 5:30pm, and participants will weigh-in as they arrive. While you enjoy group exercise, we’ll have a brief educational session that includes healthy tips and some fun tools for making positive behavior changes. Then, the session will end with sharing tips that have helped members during the week. Each participant will receive a journal to record progress and a full-color magazine with tips and recipes. Each week, personal weight “change” will be added together to celebrate the total group weight loss. Your personal weight will not be shared with the group. The enrollment fee of $25 can be paid with registration or by the first session.
“Most people think they need a prescriptive weight loss program,” says Sheree Vodicka, RD, LDN, Healthy Weight Communications Manager with the NC Division of Public Health. “With that type of program, most people gain the weight back over time. Eat Smart, Move More, Weigh Less helps people develop lifelong healthy habits that will help people to not just lose the weight, but to maintain their new healthier weight.”
Carolyn Dunn, Ph.D., Professor of Nutrition with NC State University and one of the program authors shared, “We created Eat Smart, Move More, Weigh Less to help people learn about strategies that have been proven to work for weight loss.” For more information or to get your name on the list, call Cooperative Extension at 828-682-6186 or visit the Yancey Center. Registration is requested by January 17, 2013. Come join us!
