RedbudTree lovers of all ages are invited to submit their nominations for significant trees in Durham County starting September 1 and ending by the deadline of November 1, 2015. The largest or most significant tree for each tree species and category on private or public property will be announced on Arbor Day, March 18, 2016. The Durham Finest Trees (DFT) Committee would also like to encourage the public’s awareness of trees in their community and to catalog fine examples of magnificent specimens of trees due to their size, setting or historical importance. So Durhamites, look-up at the majesty that surrounds you or take a picture of a tree that inspires you! If you have contacts that would help us get the word out please email us at
durhamsfinesttrees@gmail.com. Each tree must have its own nomination form which can be completed online or mailed to the attention of the Master Gardener Durham Finest Tree Committee at the NC Extension Service, Durham County Center address: 721 Foster Street, Durham, NC, 27701.  Following is a link to help in identifying tree species and native NC trees, http://www.cals.ncsu.edu/plantbiology/ncsc/tnc/#.VcypR2COu0y.  For more information about the program, the nomination form, instructions on how to nominate and measure a tree go to the Durham County Master Gardener Blog:  https://durhammastergardeners.wordpress.com/durhams-finest-trees/  or click here to download the Nomination form.
