Lunch & Learn Schedule for 2019
Gardening Workshop Series/Lunch & Learn Beginning June 13
If you are interested in home gardening, the N.C. Cooperative Extension, Yancey County Center will be holding a series of monthly gardening workshops on the second Thursday of each month beginning June 13, 2019, and running through October 10. The workshops will begin at 10 a.m. and will be held at the Yancey County Community Center (formerly Yancey County Senior Center) located at: 503 Medical Campus Drive, Burnsville, NC 28714.
Thursday, June 13: Container Gardening
Are you limited on gardening space, or would you just like to have a few things growing closer to home? Come learn about the basics of growing a garden in containers.
Thursday, July 11: Insects & Diseases
If you plant it, they will come! Insect and disease pests are common in the home garden. Come learn about some of the common garden pest issues and methods to minimize their effects.
Thursday, August 8: Fall Vegetable Gardening
Gardening doesn’t have to end with summer! This class will discuss methods to extend your gardening season and crops that will do well late into the season.
Thursday, September 12: Soils & Soil Testing
Healthy soils are the key to growing healthy plants. Come learn about the basics of soil, soil testing, fertilizers, and managing your soil for healthy, productive plants.
Thursday, October 10: Winter Preparations for the Home Garden & Landscape
As winter approaches are your plants protected? Come learn about gardening tasks and methods to help protect your plants during the winter months.
