Hay Testing Cost Share Available for Yancey County Livestock Producers
We are fast approaching the time of year when local livestock producers will begin their winter feeding programs. One of the main staples of most feeding programs is grass hay. It is very important for producers to know the nutrient value of their hay so that they can meet the dietary needs of their animals. The best way to determine this is to test the hay.
North Carolina Cooperative Extension in Yancey County will be providing a cost share forage testing service to local producers as available funding will allow. Funding is limited to 25 producers, or until available funding is exhausted so register soon! Each producer that registers can have up two hay tests provided on a 50% cost share basis, or $8.00 per sample for the first two samples. Producers can submit additional samples for testing, but these will require the full cost of $16 per sample.
Once the results are back N.C. Cooperative Extension in Yancey County will work with producers to determine what supplemental feed is needed. Producers need to register to participate in the cost-share service by October 15, 2020. Once registered, a staff member at the N.C. Cooperative Extension, Yancey County Center will contact you to arrange a time to take hay samples.
N.C. Cooperative Extension of Yancey County, Carolina Farm Credit, and the Yancey Farm Bureau are sponsoring this cost-share program. This service would not be possible without financial support from Carolina Farm Credit, and the Yancey County Farm Bureau!
