Collapse ▲In celebration of Small Farms Week, Yancey County Cooperative Extension will be hosting TWO exciting activities!
1. Small Farms Week Poster Contest
Youth ages 5-18 are invited to participate in our 2022 Small Farms Week Poster Contest. This year’s topic is “Why are small farms important?”.
Contest Rules:
- Youth may choose their poster size
- Maximum Size: Regular size poster board (22×28 inches)
- Minimum Size: 8×10 paper
- *If youth need assistance getting poster paper, contact Jordan (Jordan_english@ncsu.edu, 828-682-1872)
- Posters can include a combination of pictures and words
- All posters must contain original work, no copyrighted work may be included
- One entry per youth
- Posters will be judged by a panel of judges using the linked rubric
Prizes:
For each age category (see above picture), the following prizes will be given:
- 1st- $25 gift card
- 2nd- $15 gift card
- 3rd- $10 gift card

2. Canned Food Drive

HELP US BRING A MEAL TO LOCAL FAMILIES!
Our goal is to provide ONE complete meal to at least TEN families! To help ensure that we have all the ingredients necessary for a complete meal here are some of the items we are looking for:
- Canned Corn
- Canned Chicken Broth
- Canned Chicken
- Canned Black Beans
- Canned Diced Tomatoes w/ Green Chilies
- Tortilla chips, single serving bags
These items will help us provide each family with the ingredients to make Chicken Tortilla Soup! Other shelf stable items are appreciated and welcome! We are collecting now through March 18th. Please drop off your donations here: 30 East US Hwy 19 E Bypass, Burnsville, NC 28714 A donation box will be available inside the interior door of the N.C. Cooperative Extension Office.
