On Saturday, May 14th, 2022, 4-H Shooting Sports Club members from Avery, Mitchell, Madison, and Yancey Counties gathered in the early morning at Big Ivy Guns at Silas Branch in Burnsville for the Second Annual High Country 4-H Shooting Sports Tournament. The tournament welcomed over 60 youth from the four counties, competing in Archery, Rifle, and Shotgun disciplines. Avery County youth were well represented and took home the following awards: Junior Rifle-Open-1st place, Tanner Balbier; Junior Shotgun: 1st place-Holden Hall, 2nd place-Hayden Forbes 3rd place went to Weston Beers.

The High Country 4-H Shooting Sports Tournament was started to give our local area youth additional opportunities to compete and prepare for regional, state, and possibly national tournaments.

A big thank you to Big Ivy Guns at Silas Branch in Burnsville for sponsoring this event, along with the NRA Foundation for their continued support of 4-H Shooting Sports Programs. Special thanks to our club volunteer leaders, Keith Forbes and Tim Buchanan, for their guidance.
