Join us for Sizzling Summer Sessions 2023 where we offer face-to-face opportunities for youth ages 5-18 to actively create lasting summer memories through engaging fun and hands-on activities. Camp times may vary.

Register Online for all Franklin County 4-H Sizzling Summer sessions. Registration Opens Friday, May 5th at 12 noon.

Additional information:

  • The location of the camps will be at N.C. Cooperative Extension-Franklin County Center. If the camp takes place at another location, transportation is provided but will still meet at the Franklin County Extension Center, 103 S. Bickett Blvd., in Louisburg.
  • Youth must be enrolled in 4-H Online to sign up.You MUST register as a 4-H Member not participant in order for your registration to be considered complete.
  • Each camper is encouraged to bring a reusable water bottle.
  • Each program will provide water and snacks.
  • Masks are not required at this time but may change as updates from CDC and local health department are shared.
  •  Youth must be at least 5 years old as of January 1, 2023, to participate in 4-H.

CAMPS

June 12th-14th-Days at the Museum

Times: Varies, please read description

Ages: 9 and Up

We will travel to 3 different museums including: Durham Life & Science Museum, Greensboro Science Center, and the Morehead Planetarium. Youth will have the opportunity to learn about science and nature, endangered species, marine life, and attend two planetarium shows to learn about our solar system. Please bring a bag lunch each day and a refillable water bottle. Please feel free to bring some spending money if we have time to visit the gift shops. Each morning we will meet and leave from the Franklin County Cooperative Extension Office. Monday depart at 8:30 a.m., return at 4 p.m. Tuesday depart at 8:00 a.m., return at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday depart at 8:00 a.m. , return at 4:30 p.m.

June 20th-21st-Lego STEM Days

Time: 9:00 a.m. -12 Noon

Ages: 9 and Up

Enter a world of Legos and in this hands-on class, participants are given tasks to complete in order to save their island in the activity called Maker Space Disaster Island. Youth will also build a fidget spinner and compete in mini tournaments. Day two will be filled with STEM contraptions where they learn about chain reactions and then build a Lego STEM circus. Please note that the Legos are only used in class and no Legos are taken home.

June 20th-21st-Lego STEM Days

Time: 1:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m.

Ages: 5 to 8

Enter a world of Legos and in this hands-on class, participants are given tasks to complete in order to save their island in the activity called Maker Space Disaster Island. June 22nd-Splish Splash

Time: 12:30 p.m.-4:30 p.m.

Ages: 5 to 8

Youth will learn about taking care of our environment especially our aquatic and marine environment. Learn about nature and animals. Participants will have the opportunity to create instruments from recyclable materials and make aquatic critter crafts including a plastic bottle fish.

June 26th-28th-Felting Fun: Make It with Wool

Time: 9:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m.

Ages: 9 and Up

Make It With Wool is an exciting summer opportunity for anyone who likes to or is interested in working or learning about wool; sewing, weaving, felting, fibers, fashion and textiles. Participants will get the opportunity to work hands-on with fiber producing animals, spinning wool, making felt, and sewing a felt toy and learning basic hand sewing skills. Participants will even take a field trip to tour the Wilson College of Textiles at NCSU to see the Fashion and Textile program offered at NCSU. Youth will also learn about National Make it with Wool competition that is offered each year and supported by the American Sheep Industry. Please bring a bag lunch each day and wear close toed shoes on tour day.

June 29th-Sweet Temptation-Cupcake Decorating

Time: 9:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m.

Ages: 9 and Up

Spend the morning baking cupcakes, but the most fun will be had when participants learn how to make homemade icing and use that icing to decorate their cupcakes. Youth will learn several icing techniques and will be provided with all decorating materials in which they will get to take home.

July 5th-7th-Fun Food Experiences

Time: 9:00 a.m.-12:30 p.m.

Ages: 8 and Up

Join us as we learn nutrition food facts, explore food science and of course cook up some goodies with the Franklin County Family & Consumer Sciences Agent-Dominque Simon. Youth will get to prepare a dish for a breakfast meal, lunch meal, and a dinner meal. Some items include: homemade French Toast, variety of sliders, and hibachi dishes.

July 11th-13th-Life Skills 101

Time: 9:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m.

Ages: 9 and Up

Life doesn’t come with instructions! This is designed to help youth learn basic life skills or adulthood such as: grocery shopping and easy meal prep, cleaning and laundry, career exploration, money management and budgeting with a budgeting simulation.

July 18th-Sizzling Science

Time: 9:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m.

Ages: 5 to 8

Youth will have a fun filled day with sizzling science concoctions. Science experiences will include but not limited to: lemon volcanoes, homemade bubbles, elephant toothpaste, pop rocks science, and glow in the dark jello. Please bring a bag lunch.

July 19th: Spa Day

Time: 9:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m.

Ages: 5 to 8

Let’s talk about self care and the spa. Youth will be learning about how to wash their face properly, apply moisturizer, and sunscreen. This class will include knowledge about the skin, a trip to The Spa Academy, USA to get a real express facial and some sample home care kits!

Time: 9:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m.

Ages: 9 and Up

Youth will learn how to bake delicious items including assorted muffins, coffee cake, sausage ball bread, and more. The class will be taught by a wonderful baker that runs her own business, Maggie’s Taste of Home and items are featured at Packhouse Coffee. Feel free to bring a bag lunch but youth will get to eat what they bake as well.

August 1st- Makers’ Space

Time: 9:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m.

Ages:5 to 7

A full day packed with youth using their imagination and creativity to build, create, and put to use challenges by using an assortment of materials given some direction. Some challenges may include building challenges, up-cycle challenges, design challenges and using brain flakes, dominos and pattern blocks to do challenges. Be sure to bring your creativity with you! This is by far one of the most fun camps loved by youth!

August 2nd-3rd- Makers’ Space

Time: 9:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m.

Ages: 8 and Up

Two full days with youth using their imagination and creativity to build, create, and put to use challenges by using an assortment of materials given some direction. Some challenges may include building challenges, up-cycle challenges, design challenges and using brain flakes, dominos and pattern blocks to do challenges. Be sure to bring your creativity with you! This is by far one of the most fun camps loved by youth!

August 8th-Do You Want to Show an Animal?

Time: 9:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m.

Ages: 5 and Up

Calling all youth that have or do not have animals including lambs, goats, cattle, poultry, and rabbits interested in showing an animal at a “fun” or competitive livestock show are welcomed to learn the ropes of showmanship. Youth will learn about daily care, grooming, nutrition, and showmanship of your various types of animals. The 11th Annual Franklin County 4-H FUN Livestock Show is Friday, August 18th and you will have the opportunity to show your animal at this FUN learning event. Also, the NC State Fair is quickly approaching for mid-October and we will learn about show opportunities there.
