This season, Yancey County Cooperative Extension and Plant Based Burnsville are partnering to bring fresh ideas to the Harvest Share through weekly cooking demonstrations and featured recipes. Using Cooperative Extension's mobile teaching kitchen, lead cooks and volunteer assistants will showcase simple, affordable ways to prepare seasonal produce while sharing tips on food safety, cooking techniques, nutrition, and eating with the seasons.

As part of the program, we have developed easy-to-follow recipe cards featuring simple ingredients and step-by-step instructions. On the back of each card, participants will find helpful facts, cooking tips, ingredient substitutions, nutrition information, storage guidance, and other practical suggestions to help them confidently recreate the recipes at home.

From June through October 2026, participants can look forward to 20 demonstrations and recipes designed to build confidence in selecting, preparing, storing, and preserving fresh fruits and vegetables. Each week highlights locally available produce and practical recipes that families can recreate using seasonal ingredients.

Harvest Share is open to the public every Wednesday from June through October. Arrive early at West Burnsville Baptist Church to be counted in the car line, then, as distribution time approaches, step out and visit with friends and neighbors while the free market prepares to open. The fresh produce distributed through Harvest Share is grown and provided by Dig In! Community Garden and TRACTOR Food and Farms, helping connect local families with healthy, locally grown foods.
