North Carolina Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, in cooperation with N.C. Cooperative Extension of Yancey County, will be offering a Pesticide Collection Day for both residents and farmers in Yancey, Mitchell, Madison and surrounding counties. The local site manager will be David Davis, Agriculture Extension Agent for Yancey County. Collection will be Wednesday, May 20, 2026 form 10 AM until 2 PM at the East Yancey Recycling Center (located at 130 Burnsville School Rd. in Burnsville, NC).
Nearly all unwanted and unused pesticide products will be accepted, including both farm and residential pesticides. For any liquid pesticide containers larger than 5 gallons or for unlabeled pesticides please contact the N.C. Cooperative Extension Yancey County Center for information before bringing them to the collection event. No gas cylinders or mini-bulk pesticide containers will be accepted at this event; however, assistance can be provided for disposing of these types of containers.
