Collapse ▲N.C. Cooperative Extension of Yancey County is planning to host an “Initial” Extension Master Gardener℠ Volunteer Training in the Fall of 2023. This training will be conducted for those wishing to become Extension Master Gardener Volunteers in Yancey County.
- The Deadline for Applying for the Fall 2023 Extension Master Gardener Cohort has been extended to Friday, July 28, 2023.

Requirements for Becoming and Maintaining Certification as an Extension Master Gardener in Yancey County
Complete the initial EMG Volunteer training:
- Complete the EMG Volunteer Application and return to N.C. Cooperative Extension of Yancey County by the application deadline.
- Attend all 10 training sessions
- Pass the exam at the conclusion of the program
- The training will begin in August, and 1 session will be held each week (with the exception of holidays).
- Class times will be determined based upon the availability of the majority of participants applying (as indicated in the EMGV application).
- Once accepted into the program, pay $55 training fee by August 1, 2023. There will be an optional cost for participants that wished to receive their own hardcover copy of the NC State Extension Master Gardener Manual.
Complete the EMG Volunteer Internship:
- Complete a minimum of 40 volunteer hours prior to December 31, 2024 to become a “Certified Active” Extension Master Gardener℠ Volunteer.
- Volunteer Hours Must be Approved in Advance by the Extension Agent for Agriculture in Yancey County, and must support N.C. Cooperative Extension
Maintain Active EMG Volunteer Certification Status:
- Complete 20 hours of Volunteer Service Annually
- Complete 10 hours of Continuing Education Annually
- Volunteer and Continuing Hours Must be Approved in Advance by the Extension Agent for Agriculture in Yancey County
