Enter it in our Handmade and Locally Grown contest which will be held during our Farm City Day from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. on October 7th, 2023. Entry is FREE and best of show, 2nd Place and 3rd Place will be awarded in each age and entry category. Best of show winners will receive premiums.

Schedule:
- 10:30 a.m.-11:30 a.m. Drop off entries
- 11:30 a.m.-1:00 p.m. Judging
- 1:30 p.m. Awards Ceremony
Contest Rules:
Best of show, 2nd Place and 3rd Place will be awarded in each age and entry category. Best of show winners will receive premiums. Exhibitors must be present at the awards ceremony to win. Entries can be picked up at 2:00 p.m. on that day at the Town Square or the following week at the Yancey Extension Office, 8:30 a.m.-5:00 p.m.
- Baked Goods- Entries will be judged on appearance, flavor, texture, and creativity.
- All entries must have been made by the exhibitor
- Cupcakes or cookies must have 4 of each
- Recipes must be included for each entry on a 3×5 card
- Please use disposable plates for entries
- Preserved Foods- Entries will be judged on the appearance of the produce, liquid, pack, and jar condition. Certain items will be judged on flavor.
- All entries must have been processed by the exhibitor in 2023.
- All canned foods must be exhibited in a standard clear glass canning jar with a self-sealing, two-piece lid. Rings with rust will not be accepted.

All products must be processed according to recognized safe methods found in the most recent editions of the Ball Blue Book or the USDA Complete Guide to Home Canning. Inverted jams and jellies will not be judged.

All jars must be labeled as to content, processing method (pressure canner or boiling water bath) and processing time.
- Processing information should be attached to a 3×5 card.
- Pressure canned products will not be opened or judged for taste.
- Pickles, relish, butters, jams and jellies will be opened and judged for flavor.
- Locally Grown- Entries will be judged on quality (size, color, shape, maturity); condition (cleanliness, freshness); freedom from injury; and uniformity (characteristic size color and shape).
- All entries must have been grown by the exhibitor in 2023.
- Submit vegetables in lots of 3 with the exclusion of pumpkins and gourds, which should be submitted as one item per entry.
- Arts & Crafts- Entries will be judged on creativity, originality, quality of workmanship and overall presentation
- Each entry must be an original work of the exhibitor, made within the last year
