Club enrollment for 2024 is now open for our Yancey County 4-H Longshots Club!
In this club, youth learn about firearm education, safety, and participate in shooting sports activities, including shotgun, rifle and archery. Youth have the opportunity to participate in regional, district and state competitions. Open to youth ages 8-18 (as of January 1st of the current year).
Due to the overwhelming amount of interest in the club, the club is only accepting 20 members per discipline (10 juniors- ages 8-13 and 10 seniors- ages 14-18). Priority is given to youth who have previously participated in the club and regularly (70% or more) attended club practices and meetings in 2023. Families interested in joining will be added to a wait list. Once previous members join, any remaining spaces will be filled using a lottery system until capacity is reached.

The deadline to join the wait list is Monday, February 5th. On February 6th, the remaining open spaces will be filled using the lottery system and you will be notified via email if your child is accepted into the club.
Practice Schedule
Rifle
- Juniors (Ages 8-13): The First and Third Thursday’s of each month at 6:00 p.m.
- Seniors (Ages 14-18): The Second and Fourth Thursday’s of each month at 6:00 p.m.
Shotgun
- Juniors (Ages 8-13): The First and Third Thursday’s of each month at 6:00 p.m.
- Seniors (Ages 14-18): The Second and Fourth Thursday’s of each month at 6:00 p.m.
Archery
- Juniors (Ages 8-13): The First and Third Tuesday’s of each month at 6:00 p.m.
- Seniors (Ages 14-18): The Second and Fourth Tuesday’s of each month at 6:00 p.m.
Important Dates for Longshots
- Monday, February 5th: Club open enrollment closes
- Monday, February 12th 6:00 p.m.: Club Orientation and Business Meeting
- Thursday, May 23rd 5:30 p.m.: Firearm Safety Day *This community event is open to any interested 4-H member, even if you were not accepted into the club in 2024!
- Bi-weekly practices will start during the month of April
