Cooperative Extension of Yancey County has recently adopted a text messaging application that will allow us to send out text message alerts to those that subscribe to our text message alerts system. This is made possible through a program called “Slick Text”, which is provide to us through NC State Extension Information and Technology (EIT). By subscribing to this service, we will be able to add you to contact lists designated for the programs and subject matter that are of interests to you.
How We Plan to Utilize the Text Messaging Service
The system we are using allows us to group individual contacts to various lists generated by program, group, or event. For example, we currently have lists prepared for beef cattle producers, small ruminant livestock producers, commercial vegetable producers, home gardeners, Extension Master Gardeners℠. We also have contact lists established for groups that meet regularly such as our Extension Advisory Council, Agriculture Advisory Board, and the Extension Advisory Council Agricultural Committee. We can generate notices to notify our subscribers of upcoming programs, ongoing events, regular meeting notices, and even when the next newsletter will be available. Recently, our text messaging system was used to notify producers of a TS Helene Assistance program that was only open for a short time.
How to Subscribe to the Text Alerts System
If you would like to subscribe to receive text alerts from N.C. Cooperative Extension of Yancey County, you can do so by completing the online subscription form found at
